FFXIV’s Dragon Quest X Collaboration Is Coming Back With New Rewards!

The Dragon Quest X collaboration event is set to make a return to Final Fantasy XIV very soon, and it’s bringing some new rewards along for the ride! Breaking Brick Mountains, one of the oldest events in FFXIV’s history, is set to come back after being last seen in 2024. While nothing has been officially confirmed by Square Enix, sites that track newly added items such as FFXIV Collect have spotted a new Framer’s Kit being added in the 7.5 patch.

What is Breaking Brick Mountains?

Breaking Brick Mountains has been around almost as long as A Realm Reborn itself, first launching back in 2014, less than a year after the relaunch for FFXIV went live. That makes this crossover the second one to have ever happened in the game, with the first being Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. Ever since the crossover went live, it’s been brought back regularly, having taken place on the previous dates according to the Console Games Wiki:

  • January 21, 2014 to February 3, 2014
  • September 14, 2014 to September 23, 2014
  • November 30, 2017 to December 14, 2017
  • July 2, 2020 to July 27, 2020
  • October 19, 2021 to November 11, 2021
  • June 5, 2024 to June 20, 2024

Being the sixth time the crossover has returned since the original release, it’s a testament to how well-loved it’s been over the years and how even in a Final Fantasy world, everyone needs a Dragon Quest Slime in their life.

The premise was very charming, where a wandering NPC named Havak Alvak shows up in Ul’dah with a golem problem, having seen strange new golems popping up in Eorzea that were unlike anything seen before. Havak Alvak tasks you with dealing with the golems to try seeing if they contain any ores you can profit off of.

What Can You Earn?

The existing rewards are all expected to return as they have in previous event revivals, giving players a chance to crack at some goodies they weren’t around for, and allowing veterans to fill in anything they may have forgotten to grab previously. Here’s the full picture of previous rewards:

  • Wind-up Brickman: A minion based on the golem enemies from the event (Quest Reward)
  • Thug’s Mug: The iconic yellow headgear from the Dragon Quest series, which is fully dyeable in FFXIV. (Quest Reward)
  • King Slime Crown: A wobbly slime hat that physically jiggles as you move around. (57 Gil)

However, a new reward was added to the game files with the 7.5 update, known as the Dragon Quest X Framer’s Kit. This kit adds new Dragon Quest-themed elements to your Adventurer Plate, allowing you to showcase the King Slime and Brickman on your profile!

Due to the 7.5 update having just released the other day, not too many players are currently aware of this plates existence, but it gives all the more reason to enjoy the Dragon Quest X crossover returning in the near future! Now it doesn’t appear this Framer’s Kit will be something you have to grind for, as FFXIV Collect has it marked as a 1,282 Gil purchasable item, meaning you most likely can pick it up from the same vendor you got the King Slime Crown from, but it’s nice to know they are still adding onto a crossover as old as this one.

With patch 7.5 released and Fan Festival still fresh in everyone’s mind, it’s a busy stretch of content for FFXIV. Breaking Brick Mountains quietly returning on top of everything is a nice bonus, but if you want some new cosmetics while you wait, check out our guide to FFXIV PvP Series 11 here!
