Earlier today we reported on Game Pass lowering the cost of entry for those wanting into the Premium and Ultimate tiers, but now it appears Xbox is planning a major change that would allow you to lower the cost even more while getting rid of benefits you don’t use.
Reported on originally by Jez Corden at Windows Central, it would appear that rumors are starting to spread around about a “longer-term goal for Xbox Game Pass” which seeks to allow players a “sort of ‘pick your own plan’ formula for Xbox Game Pass”.
If this update to Game Pass does end up releasing in the future, we could see a dynamic pricing system implemented where if you don’t like benefits such as the Fortnite Crew you could remove those from your plan and replace it with something else such as day one titles.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard recently about Microsoft working on changes to Game Pass, as recently two new codenames “Triton” and “Duet” had been leaked for the subscription service as well:
Could New Benefits Be Added?
According to an earlier report from Adam Hales, “Xbox’s new CEO, Asha Sharma, has reportedly been in talks with Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters”, which could lead to Netflix becoming a new Game Pass benefit option you could pick from.
This is all currently just speculation but even from a standpoint of what Microsoft owns, we could see benefits for subscription services like Fallout 76’s Fallout 1st Membership, Minecraft’s Realms system, and even Overwatch Battle Passes becoming benefits for players to pick and choose from. With how little I’ve played EA games in recent years I could see myself removing EA Play if it meant being able to put day one Call of Duty titles back on my plan, or removing Fortnite Crew and Cloud Gaming due to how little I use those and instead going for a more “survival ultimate” setup focused on low cost and high benefit.
If you had the full opportunity to customize your subscription, what would you remove and what would you add?
